Going Green!

A “Vehicle Free” Celebration

To demonstrate our continuing commitment to a “greener” LA, the Holiday Light Festival will be a pedestrian only and “vehicle free” event from December 4 -17. Visitors may park at the L.A. Zoo parking lot. Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and to dress warmly to walk the full one-mile route each way. It is also recommended that walkers have outerwear, as it can get chilly.

Family Fun Mini Fair
To celebrate and culminate our “vehicle free” nights, there will be an educational mini fair area December 11, 12, & 13 during festival hours for all to enjoy, featuring information on family activities, healthy nutrition, as well as some tasty treats.

Going Green and Saving Energy

2009 marks again a year for the festival to support the City’s goal of becoming the “greenest City in the US,” the LADWP is proud that the entire festival lighting has been converted to energy saving LED light bulbs. The LED lights utilize only 1/3 the energy of traditional light bulbs. In addition, the Holiday Light Festival is being powered by a clean, energy fuel cell.

In addition to the environmental efforts going on at the Holiday Light Festival, the LADWP is committed to responsible environmental leadership. The LADWP is moving rapidly forward to reaching our goal of 20% renewable energy generation by 2010. The LADWP has also committed over $75 million to support energy conservation.
